The Museumplein was renovated a few years ago. The busy road was removed and it was redesigned to be a place for people in the city to relax and enjoy themselves. It has come as a surprise to most of the cynical locals that the idea actually worked out.

In the photo is one of the bits of entertainment on the plein today: a mini-tornado-whirlpool-type-thing that can be brought to life by vigorously pumping a lever. It’s pretty cool.
