Almost two years ago someone cleared away the local evil burger joint and started building a skyscraper-type thing next to the already existing ones at Sloterdijk. When I started working in the area a few years earlier it was all just fields with the occasional business park, but now it’s all big companies and stuff. The building that I walked past every day while it was being built was finally finished when I changed jobs and no longer had to walk (but bussed instead). In a strange twist to this story, M. now works in the building.
It’s ugly as hell from the inside, unfortunately. It just looks like they would’ve put cubicles everywhere if they thought they could get away with it. All ’80s brownish-yellowish undetermined colours… ugh. After you take the sickeningly fast elevator up and give your ears and stomach a moment to settle you get a cool view of the city through the dirty windows though, and an even better one down the stairwell.
i can’t help feeling that something this graceful is rather wasted in sloterdijk….is that CARPET on the stairs? or is it textured cement?
‘Tis carpet. Ugly-ass office carpet, but carpet nonetheless. This is however the main stairway, which people use if they don’t want to take the elevator, as opposed to the 4 stairwells at the end of each wing that is mostly for fire exits. I think the fire exit stairs are concrete. Wait, let me check… =) Hm, nope, they’re carpeted as well. But they’re not in the cool pointy shape. Anyway, this staircase is about the only graceful thing about our building, the rest is bland and square.
Woah…trippy….my head is spinning
Good thing I’m not afraid of heights or I think I would have just puked all over your site and my laptop!
This just cries out for superballs.
drop a cherry bomb…
Apart from the lousy finishes.
The staircase is very good shows that a staircase of non conventional design is a very nice concept, which shows an Architect who has vision.
A good design away from the boring spiral and square.
