As I said yesterday, this thing kills the iPod. It can do what the iPod and newer iPod photo can do and then adds a few more cool things for a lower price than the avarage iPod, just cause it can. You can store 20 GB of data. You can listen to MP3, WMA, WAV, even files with iTunes DRM. You can view photos. You can retrieve your photos from your CompactFlash card directly (which the Ipod photo stupidly cannot). You can watch Divx or Xvid movies directly on the device at great quality, or connect it to a hotel-room TV instead. You can also play some silly phone-based games. It’s just perfect for holidays where you want to avoid the bad in-flight movie and need some on-the-road storage to keep your photos safe. It of course connects fine as a USB mass storage device via super fast USB 2.0 to any device you want to connect it to. Why would anyone still buy an iPod now that this thing exists?
impressive. maybe a bit out of my price range but nice. i’ve been contemplating one of the Creative Jukebox range. course i’m only really interested in the music aspect anyway.
what are the earphones like with the archos? i’d recommend a set from Shure EC range, not only for improved sound quality but also better for your hearing safety. when used properly ear canal phones are much more effective than traditional in-ear styles.
The earphones are pretty decent, which was a surprise. My hearing is already fucked so I’m pretty careful with the volume and all. The ones that block all outside sound aren’t very good for me though. Besides the fact that it’s disorienting, I listen to music at work sometimes. When I can’t hear people calling my name they tend to start throwing stuff. It’s a bit dangerous. I have weird colleagues, obviously.
You should have a look at some other Archos devices if you’re thinking of the Creative. There are cheaper models that just do mp3 and file storage. The big plus for Archos in my book is that you can just use it as a USB harddrive. I hate having to use stupid software to sort my music - I’ve got folders already!
I’m french, and I have got the new gmini 402 camcorder and I think Archos is the best of all the Juke-boxe’s maker!!!!
Just listen and watch! =)
–>exuse me, but I don’t speak english very much…
How is the CF Card connection?
Does it have a slot or something like that,
or do you connect a generic card reader to it?
Does it have AV-IN?
It has a CF card slot on the side, and it works fine. You don’t connect a separate card reader to it. It only has AV out.
SWEET JESUS!!!!! i love my gmini 400!!!!!
just got today…this thing kills my ipod video…(messed up) i recommend this thing to absolutely everyone!!! Although, i do admit, the ipod video had possible a nicer design and the interface might have been a bit better, but who cares when you have this baby!! This has the best storage system in the world and it can even play DivX!!! I mean, what can you ask for now???
burn ipod….burn :P
