EU vote

These comments look juxtaposed on purpose, but the Laser quote was there a long time before the poster.

The whole mess about voting for a EU constitution reminded me of Usenet discussions. First one group offers up an incredibly convoluted idea that hardly anyone understands (a poorly worded RFC, if you will). No one in the community really pays much attention, except for a few people who have investigated the details and start bickering amongst themselves. Much later, when the final vote nears, the group that created the RFC realizes that people will vote against their proposal because they have not been able to explain to the voters why they should vote for it. Instead of informing people and explaining why their suggestion is a good one, they start spreading FUD. Eventually someone gets so into it that he claims that their idea will prevent another holocaust. Immediately one of the oldest laws of online discussion is invoked. ‘Godwin’s Law! You lose!.

And that’s how the European constitution died an early death.
