Locked June 9, 2006

On the Ponte Vecchio in Florence one is not allowed to write on the bridge. To get around this, people hang locks with their names on it. Some big, some small, some old, most fairly new. I guess they’re removed occasionally.

This reminds me of the old days when Stripwinkel Lambiek was still around in the Kerkstraat. They had a big sign attached to a lamp post in the Leidsestraat, but they had to remove it as it was not allowed to hang advertisements on them. They found a way around it, too: instead they put the *same* sign on a bicycle and attached THAT to the post instead. It was ok then, and stayed there for years and years…. :-)
