This one minute film was created in association with Canon and MTV Europe. “The Shot” is a series of shorts, each featuring well-known respected photographers. This video is a departure from that strategy - it’s part of a series of four shorts featuring non-professional photographers. I was invited to be featured in one of them. I’m the only non-British person featured.
The whole thing was recorded over the course of two days (one full day of filming) at the ULU in London, with a fantastic crew. I worked together with director John Pardue and took photos while he and the crew filmed.
The band is called “Hardcore Killface”, a name they made up on the spot and makes them laugh every time they hear it. It wasn’t supposed to stick. :) They’re a talented and pretty photogenic bunch, and fun guys to boot. The whole thing was produced by the wonderful people at Coast. Although it might not seem like it, the gig is pretty much fake. Though the band is of course really playing, the audience consists of paid extras.

Je maakt erg mooie foto’s moet ik zeggen. Ook mooie concertfoto’s, da’s toch wel een vak apart. Mij lukt het nooit zo goed…

[...] This is the owner/driver of the ex-firefighter van featured in The Shot. She was quite the character, someone who John (the director) just happened to bump in to some weeks earlier. Before we started shooting they had to haul out all the crap that she stored in there. She ended up only being in the film for about a second, in the madness to get into the van. Still, the van itself is fairly prominently featured. [...]
